Camp 0 · our very first one

Come as a stranger. Leave as one of ours.

Camp 0 is our first weekend: one night by a mountain lake, with people who live in Bali. Nothing is mandatory.

When28–29 Nov

Saturday from 10:00. Sunday we finish with one last meal together.

WhereLake Buyan

Bedugul highlands, about 1.5 h from Canggu. Open the map ↗

WhoUp to 100

Nomads, expats and Indonesians who live in Bali.

SleepA tent for two

Already up when you arrive. We show it properly further down.

Nights1,200 m up

Evenings are cool by the lake. Bring a warm layer.

FoodFour meals

Brunch when you arrive, dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday and one last long table before we go. Always a vegetarian option.

The day

A few moments together. The rest is yours.

Moments

  1. Brunch. Arrive when you arrive. Nobody’s late.

  2. Circle. Names first; everything else gets easier.

  3. Games. Playground rules. Teams change, nobody counts.

  4. Dinner. One long table. Pass the plates, meet the person passing them back.

  5. Fire. The part people tell their friends about. More on it below.

  6. Morning. Sunrise, a little yoga, a slow breakfast, for whoever wakes up.

Always open

  • Tea station. We’ll serve hot tea, all day.

  • Volleyball net. Mixed teams, nobody keeps score.

  • Game box. Frisbee, skipping rope, badminton, cards, Jenga.

  • Question cards. Three decks: light, medium, deep. Sit down with someone and start.

  • Beads & bracelets. Make your own bracelet. Busy hands make talking easy.

  • Quiet corner. Mats and hammocks by the lake. No phones, just a book.

  • Bali map. Pin where you live. Find your neighbours for the ride home and the next meet-up.

  • Workshop board. Anyone can post one: coffee brewing, Indonesian 101, guitar. Join, or leave when you like.

  • Shared cameras. A few disposable cameras go around. The photos come out after camp.

Agreements

1“No, thanks” is a full answer.

Nothing here is mandatory, and nobody has to explain why they’re sitting one out.

2Phones in pockets at the circle and the fire.

Take all the photos you like the rest of the time.

3Music stops at 23:00.

Our neighbours sleep, and so do some of us. The fire and the talking can go on.

4Carry your own trash.

On Sunday morning we sweep the field together and leave it cleaner than we found it.

5Bring your own drinks, keep it gentle.

It is a calm camp, not a party.

6Our four-legged friends are welcome.

Dogs are part of the family here. We’re always happy to have them around.

Who comes

Tap a question.

Can I come alone?
Most do. Saturday is built around meeting people, so you won’t be on your own for long.
Can I bring friends?
Bring as many as you like. Arrive as a group, leave as a bigger one.
We’re a couple. Is that okay?
Come together. A weekend by a lake, the two of you, and a tent of your own.
I’m Indonesian. Is this for me?
Of course. Humara is as much yours as anyone’s. That’s what “ours” means.
I’m new to Bali. Is this for me?
Then it’s a good first weekend. You’ll meet people who can tell you where to eat, where to ride and where not to.
Can I bring my dog?
Please bring them. A dog or two wandering the field makes it feel like home.
I have another question.
Ask us. We read everything. Open Instagram

Not for you if you want a club night or a hotel bed.

Home for a night.

A tent for two, set up before you arrive.

The whole weekend

Times are a guide, not a timetable.

Saturday

  1. 10:00Arrivals & brunch

Come any time between 10:00 and 12:30. Brunch is on while everyone trickles in, and there’s no queue.

  2. 13:30Opening circle

Twenty-five minutes on the grass: names, the day ahead and a few simple agreements.

  3. 14:00Open afternoon

Nothing planned until 17:30. The stations are open, and anyone can put a workshop on the board and run it.

  4. 15:30Games

Team games on the field. Teams are drawn on the spot and nobody keeps score.

  5. 17:30Sunset music

A soft DJ set by the lake while the sun goes down. Calm and easy, not a dance floor.

  6. 18:30Dinner

One long table, shared plates, always a vegetarian option.

  7. 20:00The fire

Lit once dinner is done. More below.

Sunday

  1. 05:50Sunrise

By the lake. No talking, hot tea ready.

  2. 07:00Yoga

Easy and beginner-friendly, on the grass.

  3. 08:00Breakfast

Slow, and served until 10:00. Come when you wake up.

  4. 10:00Free morning

The lake, a second round of workshops, the Bali map.

  5. 11:30Leave no trace

Everyone in one line, sweeping the field together. About 45 minutes.

  6. 13:00Last long table

Our last meal together, shared plates again.

  7. 14:30Closing circle

One last circle to say thanks to the people you met here. And the date of the next meet-up.

  8. 16:00Goodbyes

People start heading home. The shuttles leave around now.

Tap a moment and the film behind it moves there. Gold marks the moments we share.

Saturday night

Come closer.

Press and hold the fire.

Lit. Saturday, 20:00, this is where we’ll be.

  1. It makes you a little braver.
  2. A little kinder, without trying.
  3. And a little closer to everyone.

Questions

How do I get there?

Lake Buyan is 1.5 hours from Canggu and 1 hour from Ubud, with a direct route on the map. There’s parking for all of us, or take the free shuttle.

What if it rains?

A big covered area holds all of us, the tents are double-layer, and the programme has a rain version.

Are there showers and toilets?

Yes: five or more of each, on site.

Can I swim in the lake?

We don’t recommend it. The lake isn’t safe for swimming, and it’s cold up here.

Is it really happening?

Yes. The date is set and the fire will be lit.
